Call me weak, but I really find it difficult to last a day without a cup of coffee. Thankfully, one of the stops on my itinerary during my time in Bangka happened to be one of the oldest coffee shops in the region: Warung Kopi & Roti Panggang Tung Tau.
Having survived the test of time for the last 78 years, the shop currently has several outlets running across the island – with most of them located in Pangkal Pinang. Its flagship joint, however, can be found quite far over in Sungai Liat. Looking for the nearest alternative from where I was staying, I ended up paying a visit to its branch on Jl. Toniwen, which is ten minutes away from my hotel.
Despite its historical value, this establishment has been designed as a 24/7 modern hangout for the youngsters in town. It offers a selection of coffee and tea, along with various toasts and Otak-Otak (grilled fishcake wrapped in banana leaf). I went for my favourite drink of all time: Es Kopi Susu (iced coffee with milk). Now, for your information, all the coffee beverages here use Lampung Robusta coffee seeds that are quite bitter in taste yet less acidic. Brewed to perfection and with just the right amount of condensed milk, the Es Kopi Susu here is delightfully creamy and gives off a bittersweet sensation.
