“Believe me when I say that you’ll be coming back here for more, regardless of the distance that you may need to travel, just to get another taste of this heavenly delight after your first try.”
Having been operating since 1988 on Jalan Sahardjo, Martabak Kubang Hayuda should be a familiar sight for residents in Tebet or Manggarai. Unlike other Martabak sellers, Martabak Kubang Hayuda churns out Martabak Kubang (Kubang deep fried beef stuffed pancake) that is meatier compared to its counterparts, with a perfect peppery aftertaste. It is complemented well with the vinegar-based sauce that is served along with it.
Believe me when I say that you’ll be coming back here for more, regardless of the distance that you may need to travel, just to get another taste of this heavenly delight after your first try. If you live in Kalimalang, then you’re in luck – they also have set up shop there as well.
Besides Martabak Kubang, the other treats that you must have a go here are its Nasi Goreng Hayuda (Hayuda fried rice), Sate Padang Hayuda (Padangnese satay), and its variety of Roti Canai (canai bread) and Martabak Manis (Indonesian sweet thick pancakes).
Yoyo Sutaryo – who’s been working at the shop for more than 20 years – told me that they began to expand its menu by adding Martabak Manis during the early 2000s to cater to the growing demands of its customers. Remember this: after savouring its Martabak Kubang, don’t forget to get a box of its Martabak Manis to-go for your loved ones at home. It’ll be worth your money.
