Jakarta: Seafood Wiro Sableng 212

“Another scrumptious delicacy that you won’t find elsewhere is its Kerang Ijo Saus Padang (green mussels in spicy Padang sauce). Fried to a T, it features a very crunchy texture, while a hint of oyster sauce can be tasted in its saus Padang.

More of a proper food utopia than a place to be seen, one can find almost any type of comestible here. However, if you’ve only got time to visit just the one restaurant – and you’re a big seafood freak – then it’s got to be Seafood Wiro Sableng 212.

Opened in 1995, this joint is renowned for its affordable yet delicious seafood selections. It first started off in the form of a small tent on Jalan Boulevard Raya, before its immense led to significant growth over the years. During the noughties, it relocated to a permanent two-storey building, while another branch over in Muara Karang was opened during that time as well. Due to a lack of quality control, however, its Muara Karang outlet had to be shut down, yet its flagship outlet still reigns supreme.

What makes Seafood Wiro Sableng 212 stand head and shoulders above the rest is its array of unique dishes. One example is its Ikan Bakar (grilled fish), which uses turmeric as one of its main ingredient, resulting in a rich explosion of flavours. Another scrumptious delicacy that you won’t find elsewhere is its Kerang Ijo Saus Padang (green mussels in spicy Padang sauce). Fried to a T, it features a very crunchy texture, while a hint of oyster sauce can be tasted in its saus Padang.

If you like your food spicy, then give its Udang Balado (fried shrimp with spicy sauce) a go. Served with a spicy sauce filled with petai and oodles of sliced chilli, it will give you a sensation like no other. The only downside that I found with the eatery is that the small portion of rice that they dish out.
