If a zombie apocalypse were to happen tomorrow, the one foodstuff that I would hoard and keep safe would be eggs. In my most humble opinion, the egg is a wonderful food product that is easy to procure, priced affordably, and is suitable for consume at any time of the day, whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. There are many ways to cook it, and all of them are quite simple to do – from scrambled and fried to eggs Benedict with salmon on the side.
My visit to Warung Tahu Lontong Lonceng on Jalan Laksamana Martadinata brought out the egg lover in me. Specialising in Tahu Telur (tofu omelette), it was founded by one Bapak Buang Abdul Rochim back in the 1940s. Since then, it has become a firm favourite for the residents of Malang to get their fix of Tahu Telur.
I turned up at the joint during lunchtime, with the small shop bursting at the seams with customers. After placing my order, I quickly got hold of a vacant table and sat there. MyTahu Telur came in less than five minutes. Although a tad oily, it was mind-numbingly delicious. The tofu omelette featured a savoury flavour that perked me right up, and the garlicky taste from the peanut sauce tickled my fancy no end.
